Youth Swine Show at the LaBelle Youth Livestock Agricultural Show

On Wednesday, February 15th, the 4-H/FFA Market Swine Show was held. The show consisted of 4-H’ers and FFA members exhibiting their market swine ranging from 200 pounds to 355 pounds. Diamond R Fertilizer sponsored the show. The Official/Showmanship judge of the evening was Alan Newsome of Riverview, Florida.

The hogs were judged on muscling, trimness, length of body, spring to the rib, design, productive type, correctness of finish, and expected carcass desirability.

The Grand Champion Swine was shown by Dayne Norsworthy of the Rooter Runner 4-H Club and LaBelle FFA. Dayne’s hog weighed 281 pounds and was purchased by the Hendry and Tommy Family. Harmon Perterson of the Rooter Runner 4-H Club exhibited the Reserve Champion Hog weighing in at 285 pounds. Sears of LaBelle purchased Harmon’s hog.

After the placing of the swine came the Showmanship division. Showmanship is judged on the ability to exhibit an animal to its best advantage, as well as the overall care and training of the animal. The exhibitors are judged on control, presentation to the judge, awareness of the judge, and knowledge of the species. Planning, practicing, and neat appearance will assist the exhibitor in being successful. In the Senior Swine Showmanship category: Dayne Norsworthy captured the first place award with Harmon Peterson taking the second place award. Harmon and Dayne are members of the Rooter Runners 4-H Club. Dayne is also a member of the LaBelle FFA.

Gracie Swails

In the Intermediate Swine Showmanship category: Rooter Runner 4-H Club member Taylor McGill was awarded the first place award with Kaydence Tindall in second place. Kaydence is also a member of the Double H Livestock 4-H Club.

In the Junior Swine Showmanship category: Rooter Runner 4-H Club member Brook Black was awarded the first place award with Gracie Swails capturing second place. Gracie is a member of the Felda Community Pioneers 4H Club.
