We live in an age where information is at our fingertips. If you want to know the address to a restaurant, movie show times, a recipe for your favorite dish, or lyrics to a song you listened to as a child, that information is readily available to you by just picking up your smartphone, or tablet, or computer with internet connection.
It’s never been easier to access information than it is right now and, if we use this to our advantage, we can achieve remarkable things that would have never been available to those who lived in earlier times.
For example, we can educate ourselves, attend online classes, receive degrees and certifications all from the comfort of our own home. After that, we can run online businesses with virtual offices, less overhead, and more efficiently all within the World Wide Web.
With more resources than ever before at our disposal we are also faced with a sense of moral and social responsibility than most of our ancestors were. There can be negative repercussions that accompany the accessibility of so much information if we aren’t intentional with how we use this power. When my daughter was small one of her favorite films was Spider-Man and there was a line of dialogue that said “with great power comes great responsibility”. This is a very profound truth that we are all faced with.
Where once there were only a handful of people who had media presence with shows like Donahue, The Geraldo Show, or the Oprah Winfrey Show, we have evolved to a point where Facebook, YouTube, and podcasts have made it possible for anyone to have a platform to make their message heard. The question is what is your message? What do you have to say? What kind of imprint do you want to leave in the world of online information?
Let’s all approach our ability to access information and to transmit our message with a sense of responsibility and with intentional thought so that we can use our individual platforms to bring light and love and happiness to the world, both virtual and otherwise!
