Have you ever experienced this? You are having an amazing day until you hear from a friend that someone has said something not so nice about you, or you open up your social media feed and read that someone has commented something really snarky or rude on your post or on your page? It’s a total buzz kill isn’t it? And furthermore, trying to wrap your head around why someone would say something mean to you or about you is mind boggling.
Here’s the thing; You can’t control what other people do, or say, or how they act, but you can control how you re-act to whatever nastiness is thrown your way.
Here are two things you can do to handle the situation with grace and maintain a high vibe mindset so that the rest of your day isn’t ruined and consumed with thoughts about the object of your frustration.
One of my favorite sayings it “Bless it and release it!” and I use it, in instances such as this, when I know that all the amount of worrying in the world isn’t going to change a thing.
What does that mean? I literally wish them well. I think good thoughts about them, pray for them to be as happy as I want to be, and then forget (or work at forgetting) it ever happened.
What will this do for you? Well you know that old saying ‘you reap what you sow’? When you wish that person, who has a less than desirable attitude, blessings and well being…you are literally sowing seeds of blessing and wellbeing that will, in time, come to fruition in a bountiful harvest for you.
Second, I would ask myself “What is there for me to learn from this?” Is there any ounce of truth to the mean or rude thing said about you? Or can you take ownership of how your words, deeds, or actions could have been taken in a way that you hadn’t intended?
If you can learn something from any situation then you are better off that it happened – in the long run, because it is helping you to show up as the best version of yourself.
