There’s a lot of talk in the self-help and personal growth and development world about purpose; living your ‘life’s purpose’, living a life of ‘purpose’, and living a ‘purpose driven life’.
The problem is that there are about as many different definitions of the word ‘purpose’ as there are people on the planet! How are we supposed to know if we are living ‘on purpose’ if we don’t exactly know how to define it?
How are we supposed to learn from other people how to ‘live a purpose driven life’ if we don’t know how they define ‘purpose’ or if their definition of ‘purpose’ vibes with our own?
Many of us FEEL that we have a purpose for our lives but we don’t really know how to step into our ‘purpose’.
When we don’t know how to fulfill that call that we feel in our gut we can become frustrated, depressed, overwhelmed, and even angry. But, as I said before, there IS a lot of talk on the subject of ‘purpose’ to be had, we just have to get clear on how we define purpose and to discover the teacher or mentor who defines ‘purpose’ similarly so that we can be guided in a way that feels authentic.
My understanding of purpose, is when we can marry our passions, desires, and talents, with a heart of service to others. When we can do the things that we love to do, are good at doing, and figure out how to do them in a way that makes the world a better place, I believe we are in alignment with our purpose or calling.
To gain clarity on your purpose here are some journal prompts!
• How do you define purpose?
• Do you feel you are living in alignment with your purpose?
• Does all the talk about purpose get you confused and overwhelmed because you don’t know what the heck your purpose is?
