On December 9, the LaBelle High School along with the Goodwill High School High Tech Hendry and Glades Program invited several organizations to participate in a Technology Career Fair. This event celebrated Computer Science Education Week and the Hour of Code.

High school students were given the opportunity to view and talk with several local businesses that support technology career goals. The students were also able to see potential for future employment in programming as well as benefits from their studies in technology classes at LaBelle High School. College and career advisors were on hand as well to discuss information technology (IT) interests as well.

Computer Science Education Week is held annually in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (December 9, 1906 – January 1, 1992). The Hour of Code takes place each year during this week as well. The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify “code”. It also shows that anyone can learn the basics of coding which helps broaden participation in the field of computer science.

Businesses and organizations in attendance included CareerSource Southwest Florida, Simplified Technologies, Hodges University, FSW State College, Worldwide Solar Equipment and Services, Goodwill Industries, Hendry County Supervisor of Elections Office and CenturyLink.
