Hendry County grad figures revisited

A story in the December 17 issue of the Caloosa Belle on the Smart Horizon High School Diploma program being offered through the Hendry County Library System, incorrectly stated that Hendry County has the second lowest high school graduation rate in the state.

The most recent Florida Department of Education statistics are from 2014. They show Hendry County graduation rates for 2013-14 to be 67.5 percent or 56th out of the 67 Florida counties.

The graduation rate for the entire State of Florida in 2013-14 was 76.1 percent – an 8.6 percent difference.

Graduation rates for Hendry County have fluctuated somewhat between 2009-10 and 2013-14.

Ava Barrett, Director of the Hendry County Library Co-op, said that she intended to state that the Hendry graduation rate is second from the bottom among other districts in the region. From highest to lowest, area districts are ranked this way: Collier, Palm Beach, Lee, Hendry and Glades.

The Caloosa Belle is published every Thursday.
