LaBelle Heritage Museum donates money to help history fair projects

Joe Thomas, President of the LaBelle Heritage Museum (left) and Pat Johnson Vice-President of the Museum (right) donate $500 to Joel Reinking, LaBelle Middle School’s (LMS) History Teacher and History Fair Coordinator. Students at LMS are participating in Florida History Day which is sponsored by the Museum of Florida History. Florida History Day (FHD) is an annual, statewide activity that enhances the teaching and learning of history at the middle and high school level. The curriculum supports the project-based learning approach. The Museum of Florida History has coordinated FHD since the 1988–89 school year. The students at LMS are to come up with a topic that can be displayed on a website, in a paper or an exhibit. Ten projects will be chosen to participate at the state level in Tallahassee in May. The sixth to eighth graders can compete individually or in groups which means that between 10 to 50 students may be making the trip to state. The $500 donated by the Museum will help with the cost of taking the students to Tallahassee to compete. If you would like to make a donation to help with the cost call Joel Reinking at 863-674-4646 or email him at
