Girls Weightlifting is wrapping up season with lifters heading to state

LaBelle Cowgirls had the opportunity to host both 1A District 15 Regionals and 1A Region 8 competition this year. The Cowgirls did not disappoint!

At the District competition held on Thursday, January 17 the Cowgirls outlifted everyone in their District to finish as back to back 1A District 15 Champions! They had four individual District Champions: Marlusous Mitchell 110, Jenna McClain 169, Yesenia Gomez-Lopez 183, and Jennifer Perle UNL.

Saturday, January 26, the Cowgirls hosted Region 8 competition, where eighteen schools were represented. The Cowgirls finished third, missing regional runner-up by only four points. Individual Regional Champions were Jenna McClain 169, and Yesenia Gomez-Lopez 183. By winning their weight classes, both ladies are headed to state competition at Arnold High School in Panama City Beach, Fl on February 9.

Highlights of the Cowgirls 2018-2019 Season:
Jenna McClain in the 169 weight class continued to break her own school records and was undefeated this entire season. She heads into state competition as a sophomore pre-ranked in first place. Her current records are 180 pound bench press, 175 pound clean and jerk, and 355 pounds total.

Marlusous Mitchell is a senior, who only lifted for the Cowgirls this year. She beat the 110 bench record by lifting 125 pounds. She finished second at regionals, and barely missed making it to state with an at large bid.

1A Region 8 Individual Champions and State Qualifiers- left-Jenna McClain 169 and Yesenia Gomez-Lopez 183.

Yesenia Gomez- Lopez a junior, was both District and Regional individual champion in the 183 weight class. She heads to state competition pre-ranked to finish in the top ten for her weight class.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Coach McClain are beyond proud of how their girls represented LaBelle High School and know they will continue to put in work and be even stronger next year. Way to go Cowgirls!
